VENTURE - Undergraduate Research Project Database

Why undergraduate research?

Studies have shown that students gain numerous outcomes from undergraduate research. The mentoring and collaboration gained through this process helps students to:

  • Develop better analytical skills through problem-solving and organization;
  • Improve communication abilities by presenting and writing about their research;
  • Gain greater career clarification;
  • Increase their self-confidence and independence;
  • Become better prepared for advanced studies in graduate school; and
  • Demonstrate to future employers that they have gained "hands-on" experience while still in school.

Students participating in undergraduate research experiences have higher graduation rates and report greater satisfaction with their overall undergraduate experiences compared to their peers who didn't pursue such an opportunity.

So the question is: why are you not participating in an undergraduate research experience? Use the Venture Web site and search for opportunities that fit your interests. Some research positions are paid, while others you can take for academic credit or even volunteer your time. Start now and make a difference in your own education.
